It is helpful, but it is not designed to keep my child particularly focused. It offers a variety of problem types, so I would recommend it if you just want to solve problems for each type. But it is a little boring, and since you are literally just following along to solve them, I feel that is separate from actually understanding the material.
My child finds application problems harder than I expected. By solving them step by step, it seems they are learning different ways to work through problems.
My child is also working through Teacher Cheon Jong-hyun’s Wonrisem workbook, and I bought this one because it seemed suitable while I was looking for advanced material. It’s so good.
We had bought various workbooks, and sometimes my child did them and sometimes not. When my child reached third grade, I felt it was time to do some more serious studying. This book seems to be organized in steps so students can solve advanced problems well. Thanks to it, my child is doing well without too much difficulty. The QR codes are really helpful, too!
This is the workbook I found when I was wondering whether there was anything else to do before moving from the concepts to advanced work. It was a great fit for my child, and we had so much fun working through it. Teacher Cheon Jong-hyun’s Gyo-gwa Sem was also very helpful. It did a great job identifying the parts my child found difficult or had not mastered and helping us work through them. We’re looking forward to grades 4, 5, and 6!
I bought it thinking it was an advanced workbook, but it is easier than I expected. My second-grade son struggles with Choe Sang-wi 3-1, but he solves this one easily. The explanations are clear, too, and the difficulty itself feels more like an application-level version than an advanced one.
My second grader kept getting stuck while working through problems. I heard from other moms that Ttapul is popular, so we have been practicing step by step. When my child gets stuck, I feel so proud as a mom watching them try to understand by going over it once more in the lesson.
I liked that students can explore the concepts, practice different problem types, and then review. Being able to listen to explanations in the video lessons is a huge help when my child has trouble. It’s great!

This was a great workbook for a second grader who is working ahead in third-grade material, before starting Choe Sang-wi.

What kind of workbook is Ttapul? It organizes ways to solve challenging problems into steps, so students can learn by following those methods and practice advanced problems of similar types. Other advanced workbooks often just present difficult problems, with too little explanation of how to solve them or with logical gaps. Ttapul, by contrast, teaches solution methods step by step so students can ultimately solve advanced problems on their own. We recommend Ttapul for students who know the basic concepts and principles taught in school math but find advanced problems difficult, as well as students who want to tackle advanced problems while using an application workbook or a workbook that covers both basic and applied concepts.
