Description

Since the advent of mass media, research on the potential impact of media on children and adolescents has been continuously conducted not only by media scholars and sociologists but also by educators and policymakers. In particular, the recent rapid changes in media types and usage environments have led to a significant increase in usage, and consequently, the influence of media on children and adolescents continues to attract the attention of researchers. However, it is regrettable that this interest has ultimately devolved into research aimed at media regulation, as it stemmed from concerns regarding negative effects rather than positive functions. Therefore, this book aims to ensure objectivity as a media researcher by examining the impact of media on children and adolescents from both positive and negative perspectives. This book consists of a total of 10 chapters. Looking at the topics of each chapter, the General Overview section covers the definitions of children, adolescents, and media, as well as related theories and characteristics of media users. Subsequently, the relationship between children and adolescents and various topics—including violence, sexuality, music, advertising, games, and digital media—was examined thematically. Finally, sections on media education and policy have been added.
