I bought this out of curiosity because I heard it was the author's representative work. However, perhaps because not many people read it, the binding of the delivered copy was poor, so I requested an exchange. The glue finish on the replacement copy was also a bit strange, but it wasn't in bad condition compared to the first one, so I decided to just read it.
Roberto Bolaño: Savage Detectives 1
This is the first volume of *Savage Detectives*, a novel by Roberto Bolaño, a representative author of Latin American literature. Published in 1998, it won the Romulo Gallegos Prize—often called the "Nobel Prize of Latin American Literature"—immediately after its release, establishing Bolaño as the greatest writer in the Spanish-speaking world. The story follows Bellano and Lima, two young men willing to do anything for poetry, as they trace the people they meet and the events they experience from 1968 to 1996. Their journey begins in Mexico City and crosses borders and continents, passing through Paris, Israel, Nicaragua, Barcelona, and Africa. By piecing together the voices of various individuals who met the two poets, the author completes a puzzle depicting the lives, loves, dreams, and frustrations of these passionate young literary enthusiasts. The work is divided into three parts; Parts 1 and 3 are presented as the diary of a seventeen-year-old aspiring poet named García Madero, while the extensive Part 2 unfolds in the form of interviews narrated by various people.
