The photo captions are clean and concise, without anything superfluous. The author’s brief reflections invite you to contemplate the landscapes in the photos, and it’s a pleasure to gain historical background knowledge as a bonus. As I close the book, my heart is full of gratitude for the blessing of being born in this beautiful country. I offer my respect to the author for publishing such a wonderful travel guide with such passion. Stay healthy.
The book contains professional photographs of 70 places for each season, 280 in all, along with precious essays that are worth reading carefully. When I look at the photos, I’m glad to see places I’ve visited and sometimes realize anew that each place has a story. I add places I haven’t visited to my travel bucket list. I think keeping this book would be a big help when planning domestic trips. I liked it so much that I ordered two more copies to give to friends.
This book captures the grandeur of nature just as it is! I’m truly moved. Korea’s breathtaking beauty comes through so fully... You’ve accomplished something difficult that only someone who can truly enjoy it could do. Thanks to you, it’s a great honor to admire the highlights of Korea’s four seasons. I hope you stay healthy and continue your work. You worked so hard to publish this book, and I want to express my gratitude. From your student.
Oh Jong-ho: The Four Seasons of Korea Met by the Wind
Korea’s four seasons, captured with the Leica’s warm colors and soft images. The artist’s perspective and sensibility, shaped by overcoming loneliness and despair, come through in every work! After organizing more than 10 years of photography across the country, the artist felt the work was too good to keep to themself, refined it with a fresh perspective, and released this book. It vividly captures Korea’s four seasons using the warm, rich color and natural, gentle rendering characteristic of Leica cameras. There are many photographs that express the appeal of each season—the flowers of spring, the sea in summer, autumn foliage, and winter snow—making the book a pleasure to look through. The artist also shares the loneliness and despair experienced last summer while confined to an intensive care unit and fighting for more than a month, as well as the experience of overcoming a life-threatening crisis and resuming creative work. That extraordinary experience led the artist to look at the world with affection, and its fruits are fully present in this collection. As you take in the rhythmic writing and beautiful landscape photographs, you can understand why Korea is called a land of splendid mountains and rivers.
