I referred to chapters 1 through 3, but when I got to chapter 4, the order was a complete mess. I wish you would release a revised edition.
While the book explains the basic usage of Unity and game development well, there are so many typos and omissions that relying solely on the book won't work; you absolutely must visit the official forum and watch the videos to complete the book. To make matters worse, the videos differ from the book (variable and function names are different, and even the location and order of declarations are different), to the point where I suspect they produced it this way just to sell books and boost
After thoroughly reading another basic Unity book once, I recently purchased and am currently reading this one. I haven't finished the book yet and am currently at the beginning of Chapter 3. It is nice that I can watch videos if I get stuck while reading, but one slight drawback is that the explanations are often written in sentences that aren't polished to be easily understood. In other words, rather than being concise and simple, some sentences seem to have been written just off the top of
I bought this because I'm very interested in Unity game development. It's really thick.
Absolutely amazing~ Highly recommended! I recommend it because the parts you absolutely must memorize or know are written in large letters, and it highlights the unexpected importance of comments. It starts easy and gradually increases in difficulty, boosting your confidence. It really understands and solves the struggles of a beginner. It is truly the best Unity book of my life!
For those who wish to create their own games, much like Minecraft, the Unity game engine is a highly attractive program. Currently, Unity supports most platforms—regardless of whether they are mobile devices, desktops, or consoles—and is said to be very intuitive to use. With Unity, it is possible to create everything from 2D models to FPS games, executing dynamic movements using C# scripts. While anyone can get the hang of importing and decorating shapes after a few tries, any project requires
Personally, I wasn't particularly fond of developing programs through samples, but this book made me like it. It was well-explained, clean, and clear. I liked it the most because it selected two of the most popular games—shooting and FPS—to effectively demonstrate Unity's features. Perhaps I liked it even more because the first game I thought of when I decided to try Unity was a shooting game. As stated on the cover, it is a book for beginners in Unity development. It covers the basics in
Ever since I was young, I have really loved games set in the Three Kingdoms period. The stories of Liu Bei, Guan Yu, and Zhang Fei captivated me. However, I was quite shocked to learn that the protagonists of the Three Kingdoms era—Liu Bei, Guan Yu, and Zhang Fei—were from Chinese history, not Korean history. Since then, I have long wanted to create a game set in Korea's Three Kingdoms period. But when I actually started trying to make a game, I found it much more difficult than I expected, as
Lee Young-ho et al.: Life Unity Textbook
An introductory book on Unity has been released, co-authored by CEO Lee Young-ho—a former Unity Evangelist at Unity Korea and renowned for his professional Unity lectures—and six other expert Unity instructors with impressive development backgrounds (Lee Young-hoon, Kim Tae-hwan, Kim Hyun-jin, Park Won-seok, Park Hyun-sang, and Tak Kwang-wook), who serve as the head of the Unity lecture group ARA XR Lab. Just as we refer to important books and movies in life as "life books" and "life movies," this ambitiously prepared book titled *Life Unity Textbook* covers the changes between the 2019 and 2020 versions, explaining everything from Unity basics and installation to C# syntax and FPS (First-Person Shooter) games. Unity is a 3D and 2D game engine created by Denmark's Joachim Ante, Nicolas Francis, and David Helgason, as well as an integrated authoring tool that supports the creation of interactive content such as 3D animation, architectural visualization, and Augmented Reality (AR)/Virtual Reality (VR). Advocating for the "democratization of game development," Unity supports 27 platforms including Windows, macOS, iOS, Android, PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch, and web browsers (WebGL), while the Unity Editor supports Windows and macOS. Due to its extensive scope of use, Unity is preferred by university game departments and job training courses. It is distributed in three editions—Personal, Plus, and Pro—and has a very broad user base as individuals can use the Personal edition for free. This book aims to be the standard textbook that teaches everything about Unity development, and to make it more accessible to readers, example source code and lecture videos are available on the author's cafe (cafe.naver.com).
