Description

“How can I help my baby develop a round head?” “Is it okay that my baby keeps spitting up?” “The skin around my baby's mouth is red—is it an allergy?” After the challenges of pregnancy and childbirth, new parents face another mountain: raising a child. They have so many questions, from colic and sleep habits to supplements and a baby's first birthday illness, but taking a child to the hospital is exhausting, and the flood of online information makes it hard to know what to follow. They may be swayed by advice from people around them and end up doing something harmful to the child. Parenting does not have to be difficult and overwhelming. The author, a professor who treats critically ill newborns in a neonatal intensive care unit and a father of a three-year-old, says new parents can reduce their fears by learning in advance about the changes babies go through in their first year and understanding them. Knowing when to go to the emergency room and what developmental milestones to expect at each stage lets parents care for their child safely without panicking or scrambling. The most important thing in caring for a child from birth to age one is wanting the child to grow up “healthy.” Many actions motivated by a desire for a smarter or taller child, or one who walks sooner than others, can actually harm the child. For example, the mistaken beliefs that stretching a baby's legs will help them grow taller or that a walker will help a baby learn to walk remain widespread. Drawing on current medical knowledge and experience, the author explains which conditions should worry new parents and which should not, and shares selected, useful parenting tips.

I used to watch only the YouTube videos, but then I bought the book too. I recommend it as an essential starting point for new parents!

It explains things in a reassuring way, with examples like, “This can happen, and here's what it means,” so you won't panic while raising a child. Reading it once ahead of time may help keep me from being too surprised if something comes up.

I gave it to a couple of friends who are expecting a baby. They already had other parenting books, but said those were so big and heavy that they felt burdensome. This one was helpful and a normal book size, which they liked.

I received this as a gift, and the content was so good that I gave another copy to someone I know! The key takeaways and easy-to-understand headings make it a quick read. I read half the book right after it arrived. It includes a good balance of things everyone can relate to and things readers are curious about. It's just right, not too much. Highly recommend! 👍

I've followed the Oxygen Brothers YouTube channel since I was pregnant, and I'm now the mother of a two-month-old. I love reading parenting books, so I own and have read all the popular ones (Our Neighborhood Children's Hospital, The Smart Parent, Bbibbo Bbibbo, The Parenting Encyclopedia, The Baby Development Encyclopedia, The Pregnancy, Birth, and Parenting Encyclopedia, A Baby's Schedule for Eating and Playing Well, and others), but this is the first time I've written a review. That's how

A pediatric specialist who works on the Oxygen Brothers YouTube channel organized their experience into an easy-to-understand month-by-month guide to caring for a baby from birth through the first year. It covers practical topics such as bathing, car-seat use, colic, and sudden infant death syndrome. The key points of each chapter are summarized to make them easy to remember, and QR codes link to related YouTube videos, which is practical. The book isn't thick, so it's easy to read, and

I trusted and enjoyed this parenting guide even more because it was written by a pediatric specialist. Our baby is nine months old, and the book helped me see how well our baby has grown from birth through nine months and how to care for them going forward, including with solid foods, tummy time, and preventing illness. It was such an easy read that I finished it in two days. Parents of children from birth to age one might want to keep a copy of this “bulletproof parenting” book for new parents
