Kim Jin-hyung: History of LA Koreatown
If a person has dreamed so much of his life and tried so hard to achieve it, and finally fulfilled it, what could be more beautiful and worthwhile than that? The history of the M’am Coratown, which was published in Yoonjin, is a great book that I feel is human. After a mid-thirty youth who left his studies to the United States in 1968 declared he would build Coriatown in 1972, it showed eight years of hard process and sad dedication until he was unanimously granted the L.A. City Council’s setting up for the last five years in 1980. Kim Jin-sin’s autobiographical story, The History of the M.A., shows what was born in the first city of Korea in the United States, but it gives us a sense of wonder how one person could do so all through life. In 1968, as we were confronted with the experience of L.A. com-migrations who had come to the United States and who were now poor or who were then hard-to-do, we thought that he could solve the problems of the Korean community, the Kung Coria Town. It is amazing to think that you have had a big dream called the Homkoria Townsung, but the process of realizing it has been a source of admiration throughout your reading.
