Kim Byeong-ik et al.: Beom-woo Yun Hyeong-du, a publisher for the sake of publishing

In Reflection on 80 Years of ‘Traces of Life’ – 60 Years in the Publishing Industry, 55 Years Since the Founding of Beomwoo. A collection of writings from figures across the world regarding Beomwoo Yun Hyeong-doo, who has walked the path of publishing for half a century! As I examine Mr. Yun Hyeong-doo’s career and achievements, as well as the anthologies dedicated to him and his own writings, I find myself confirming my preconceptions about him while simultaneously wanting to bestow another title upon him. An advocate of ‘publishing for the sake of publishing’ or an advocate of ‘books for the sake of books’! Is such a name even possible? However, given that terms like ‘literature for the sake of literature’ and ‘art for the sake of art’ have been used as official expressions, there is no reason why the title of ‘advocate’—fitting for someone who has lived a life for and by books—could not be applied. Is there still a dream that Chairman Yoon has not yet achieved through Beomwoosa? If human ambition is truly great, there must surely be more work he wishes to do.
