Joo Hyung-il: Photography and Death (Large Print Book)
Photos cut out the time of reality and reproduce it as a single face, creating a space that is out of the stream of time. The problem of death is fundamental to determining the existence of humans and societies. Through the prism of death photography, we look at the duration and inaccuracies of time from personal death to social death. Photos have a contradictory property that denies death and also makes it a warning. This has led to a series of videos that can have a powerful emotional impact not only on the personal and everyday aspects of the day but also on the public areas of politics, society and culture. Today, as technology has developed, it is easy for anyone to photograph, store, distribute and share images, and every moment of the world, thousands of photos are being taken, and they are released and distributed through various media. Why do so many people want to take pictures of themselves in their daily lives and keep the photos? Why are photos of people's suffering, grief, joy and pleasure in the midst of social conflicts drawing attention to the public and leading to their actions? In a personal death photograph, we find a new society of photos, social death photos, ethics of death photographs, and the function of death photos.
