Description

Based on an understanding of the issues regarding the narration of the history of modern and contemporary Korean literature, this textbook outlines the flow of the growth and development process that Korean literature underwent from the period surrounding the Gabo Reform—generally accepted as the starting point of modern Korea—to the 1960s. Part I deals with modern and contemporary Korean literature and the issues of narrating literary history. Specifically, it traces the patterns of change in our literature in response to external shifts, such as political and social events, dominant ideologies, and lifestyles. In this context, it understands the overall external landscape of literary history through the formation and transformation of literary circles and the establishment, growth, and evolution of the modern readership. Building upon this foundation, Parts II and III study the history of modern and contemporary Korean poetry and novels by period, and further through narratives based on characteristics or by author and work. By studying the characteristics of authors who left outstanding achievements and their representative works—centered on the poetry and novel genres that have grown and developed most actively over the past 70 years of modern and contemporary Korean literature—from a diachronic perspective, students will be able to concretely understand the central flow of literary history.

It is somewhat unfamiliar, but since it is a field I want to study, it helps with my learning.
