Ha Man-bok: Roads and Traffic (New Normal)
Although it has been over 60 years since the academic discipline of roads and transportation was formally introduced in Korea, the history of interest in and academic approaches to transportation issues in the country is much shorter than that of developed nations. For this reason, it is true that research and the publication of specialized books in the field of roads and transportation have been significantly lacking. Furthermore, while transportation-related departments are being established at some universities and awareness of the necessity of the field is rising, the number of departments related to road engineering is still very small, even across the nation. Consequently, the limited number of professionals in the road and transportation sector means that authors cannot expect any income even after investing considerable effort in publishing books; as a result, the phenomenon of scholars and researchers being reluctant to publish remains largely unchanged. Under these circumstances, in order to provide even a small amount of assistance to road and traffic officials and students, we published *Advanced Topics in Traffic* in 2004. After publishing *Roads and Traffic* in 2007 by supplementing shortcomings and adding content immediately after the first edition, we are now releasing *New Normal Roads and Traffic* 14 years later, updated to align with the "Rules on Road Structure and Facility Standards" revised in March 2020 and the "Road Capacity Handbook" revised in 2013. This book was planned with road and traffic practitioners, exam candidates, and university (graduate) students in mind to welcome the New Normal era, and the questions were created with a focus on roads and traffic (airports). Since roads and traffic are interrelated, approximately 30–40% of the exam questions for Professional Engineers in Traffic and Professional Engineers in Roads and Airports cover a mix of traffic and road-related issues. Therefore, this book, published in the New Normal era, will enhance one's qualifications as a Professional Engineer and be of great help in practical work. 1.
