Description

Elena Ferrante, who was greatly loved by readers for her "Naples Quartet" covering the lives of two women spanning over 60 years set in Naples, presents the masterpiece "Bad Love Trilogy," which depicts the process of finding one's identity through painful love. Elena Ferrante is an author shrouded in mystery, having never once appeared before the public. You can encounter three works in which this author, who speaks of herself solely through her writing, discusses women using primal and self-destructive language. Although the three stories are independent, they share the commonality of having protagonists born in Naples and raised in a rough and patriarchal environment. Furthermore, they possess a chronological character in that they center on women's lives and the search for female identity. The author's debut work, *Troublesome Love*, is the first piece of the "Bad Love Trilogy" and is the only one among the three to exhibit genre characteristics. Centering on the story of a daughter tracing her mother's death, this novel stands out for its taut tension and breathtaking twists, reminiscent of a mystery suspense novel. *Abandoned Love*, the second work in the "Bad Love Trilogy," depicts a midsummer night's nightmare that befalls a woman abandoned by her husband from the perspective of a wife. Unraveling the psychology of an abandoned woman with excellent and candid descriptions, this work portrays the precarious journey of the protagonist Olga to stand on her own, shattering the stereotype of a woman as a wife through primal and sensual language. *Lost Love*, the final work of the trilogy, is a novel that secretly and intensely portrays the dark underbelly of beautiful maternal love from the perspective of a mother. It thoroughly destroys the maternal love we have regarded as sublime and beautiful through the twisted mother, Leda.

When reading old novels or books, you often encounter unpleasant tropes. For instance, a violent and patriarchal husband and a submissive wife, or settings involving a woman's sacrifice. This book makes us realize and feel that we must change from such things. May all women in the world always keep in mind that they are truly precious and valuable beings.

The ‘Bad Love Trilogy’ thoroughly delves into female psychology and tells the story of women searching for their true selves. The ‘Bad Love Trilogy’ features more daring and raw expressions than the ‘Naples Quartet.’ However, I did not feel that these expressions were vulgar enough to make one cringe. This is because they function as devices that vividly portray the situations. Multidimensional characters and intriguing events make the reader turn the pages at a rapid pace. In *Annoying Love*,

I was glad to finally come across a proper feminist novel after a long time. I have had several experiences where I read a novel expecting a feminist story, only to be disappointed because it only described the reality of women in a fragmented way. This novel was impressive not only for its feminism but also for capturing the minute details of interpersonal relationships and unfolding them in its own unique style. I found myself empathizing with the protagonist's emotions without even realizing

I intended to just read a little and then go to sleep, but I ended up finishing it in one sitting. It feels like it has been a long time since I read a book without realizing how much time has passed. I started reading while reclining in bed, but gradually found myself sitting upright. The harsh reality faced by women feels incredibly vivid. A unique and captivating work.

While you can pick and choose to read the books according to your preference regardless of the series order, reading them sequentially from the first volume to connect the main storyline leading from daughter to wife to mother is also a great pleasure. I usually read books thoroughly and for a long time, but as I became immersed in the protagonist's situation and emotions, I was surprised to find myself already holding the third volume, *Lost Love*, after having finished *Annoying Love* and
