Description

“What is the secret to a child whose life goes well?” This book is the result of the author’s nine years of obsession and observation regarding this question. Here, the author defines “going well” as an achievement greater than mere success. It speaks of a satisfaction that transcends mere happiness. It speaks of a life that is more beautiful after the age of 30 than in childhood. In the lives of children who are happy past thirty, there is “Gamtong” (spiritual communion). “Instead of praying for your child to do well in school or to get into a good university, pray for them to achieve Gamtong!” The author emphasizes that “heart grades” are more important than academic grades. This is because, through the cases of countless students he has met, he has seen that children with high levels of spiritual communication with God and emotional communication with their parents possess greater resilience even when facing the rough storms of life. Can you be certain that your child will live a happy life after thirty just because they are a model student now? If you are thinking about your child’s life after thirty, focus on “Gamtong.” When your child communicates with their parents and with the Creator, everything falls into place naturally. Having spent 23 years working with elementary, middle, and high school students across both Christian education and private education settings in the United States and Korea, the author diagnoses the current state of Korean education with a balanced perspective and offers solutions for our children's academics, character, and faith with keen insight. This book will serve as an excellent guide for parents who dream of raising truly happy children, rather than children who are successful in the eyes of others. As a must-read for all parents in Korea, it will also be a special resource for teachers, pastors, and parents of children studying abroad.

Through this book, I feel I was able to regain the center of my educational values, which had been wavering for a while. I enjoyed the diverse and vivid examples from the author's personal experiences, and the smooth writing style made it impossible to put the book down. I feel I need to prepare various guidelines for my children amidst future career changes—something I knew about but hadn't fully grasped until now. Above all, I wholeheartedly agree with the author's point that focusing on
