Description

Advances in science, technology, and medicine make a 120-year lifespan seem near, but longer lives have also brought us a long old age. After 50, regardless of wealth or status, we feel our physical and mental strength decline and must face roughly 50 more years. Without preparation, we may struggle against aging or live listlessly on memories. Yet many older adults remain active and enjoy a golden chapter that makes us hope to age like them. Why do some become frail while others become truly mature? Ten years after retirement, author Yoo In-kyung is still active in broadcasting, lectures, and writing. Through books and conversations with older people living on their own terms, she observed how they create a shining “Premium Period.” This book presents 21 attitudes and pieces of wisdom for the second half of life.

A book that teaches the wisdom of becoming a truly mature adult. It’s fun to follow the author’s reading journey, and delightful to discover a side of her quite different from the person I’ve seen on television.

[Review] This essay by Yoo In-kyung, a former Kyunghyang Shinmun reporter familiar from television, YouTube, and lectures, gathers her writing on aging, based on books she has read and people she met through journalism and broadcasting. She suggests that anyone, regardless of age, wealth, appearance, or career, can make the present their own “Premium Period.” Twenty-one P words—including Present, Potential, Positive, Peak, and Passion—introduce ideas explored through books, films,

The title suggests the subject, but leaves me wondering whether life can shine in your fifties as brightly as in your twenties. I first saw the author on my mother’s favorite show, Dongchimi, and admired her cheerful, confident opinions on difficult marriages and family problems. After a 30-year journalism career and becoming the first female reporter at Kyunghyang Shinmun to retire at the mandatory age, she is now in her mid-sixties, a grandmother who says she is happy to grow older. In an era

This book is for people past 50 and into their sixties, as they prepare for life’s second half. I’m younger than the author, who is around my mother’s age, and chose it to learn from someone ahead of me and build a better life with fewer regrets. She discusses the attitudes, mindset, actions, and relationships needed for a “Premium Period,” using English P words as chapter themes and unfolding each as an engaging story. Her experiences as a journalist and broadcaster offered many passages I

“You who have kept going day after day are not a preserved legend, but today’s hero!” Fifty once seemed far away, but now it feels close and weighs on me. This easy-to-read book changed how I think about each precious day. Life brings storms as well as peace, but difficult, frightening times eventually pass. As I approach retirement, I realize another life is waiting. I look forward to creating a shining “Premium Period.” The book gathers 21 lessons in wisdom and attitude, helping us approach

I found a good book for the first time in a while. In 2024, when I turned 50, books with “Fifty” in the title seemed to pour out, and I picked up a few for fun. This was my favorite. It feels meditative, brings peace, and fills me with hope that I can enjoy the present. It is like a caring older mentor sharing the secrets of a happy life, giving me energy after a dull stretch. Four main themes—attitudes, mindset, actions, and relationships for the Premium Period—contain engaging subtopics, all
