Since I started living with a dog, I've begun noticing the birds around me. I ordered this because I liked the bird photos in the book.
Yoo Byung-hoe: Gochang's new bird
Birds as seen through the eyes of Yoo Byeong-hoe, a nature interpreter and wildlife photographer in Gochang. After retiring from teaching, the author has spent more than a decade observing and photographing birds based in the Gochang area. Gochang has exceptional natural surroundings, including the West Sea tidal flats and Ungok Ramsar Wetland, and was designated a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. These ecological conditions make it home to resident birds and a resting place for migratory birds. A lost bird may wander through and eventually settle there as a resident. The contents are organized into birds of prey, waterbirds, and mountain birds. Summer and winter migrants also live amid the changing colors of the seasons. In all, the book features 150 species. Readers can enjoy a variety of birds: those leaving Gochang, those returning after having left in the past, and those stopping there along a long journey. Yoo steps back and raises the camera with respect for nature, taking care not to disturb the birds. The book captures dynamic moments, such as a kestrel soaring, mandarin ducks swimming, and a Japanese bush warbler singing in the mountains. The goal is not simply to photograph rare and beautiful birds, but to introduce Gochang's birds widely for ecological education. The author says that in an era of climate crisis, people, nature, and birds need to coexist.
