Yangsan Chwi et al.: Speaking of China 2: The World in the Book of Poetry
A history of China viewed from a Chinese perspective. This book is a translation of the introductory Chinese history text *Huashuo Zhongguo* (Discourses on China) and is planned to be composed of a 15-volume series. Dividing the historical process from China's primitive society to the fall of the last dynasty, the Qing, by era, it compiles stories about major historical events and figures of each period into over 1,500 headings, structured in a narrative format to make it easy for anyone to read and understand. Furthermore, it includes over 3,000 rich and detailed illustrations, maps, and photographs to provide a vivid sense of realism, as if viewing the daily life of the time. It also incorporates the context of Chinese historical development and information on world history to complement content that might otherwise be lacking in narratives alone. Volume 2 recounts, through 94 stories, the founding efforts of the early Western Zhou monarchs, the governance and turmoil of the middle-period monarchs, and the consequences of the dissoluteness and tyranny of the late-period monarchs.
