News reports these days often discuss forests declining because of climate change. But it is hard to understand why they are declining from the news alone. This textbook should be very helpful for learning how the atmospheric environment, which is changing due to climate change, affects trees. Personally, I found the research methods for examining how plants are affected by the atmosphere in Chapter 3 very interesting.

This book sets out to describe in detail how atmospheric conditions such as ozone, fine particulate matter, and pollen affect the physiology of trees. At times, the atmosphere can act as a source of stress for trees. Fortunately, with support from the Seoul Metropolitan Government, we were able to use an advanced phytotron facility and obtain results while controlling atmospheric conditions for tree species found in Korea. As much as possible, we tried to explain phenomena in trees familiar to us rather than those in other countries.
