Although this book was written before COVID-19, it covers the digital worship necessary for the current situation in detail. The condition of the book was disappointing, as there was some ink-like stain on the inside pages. Since there is no place to rate book condition or shipping, I am writing this review here.
Teresa Berger: Worship Meets the Digital World
“Teresa Berger introduces *Worship Meets the Digital World*, a specialized book on online worship, to Korea for the first time.” Changes in the liturgical forms of 21st-century worship continue. However, among these changes, there have been no documents that properly evaluate or raise issues regarding the act of worship known as “online worship.” This is a book I would recommend reading at least once to modern Christians who currently stand at the boundary between offline and online, living lives that traverse this space. Modern Christians, situated at the boundary between online and traditional worship, have rapidly embraced these changes in the digital age without having the time to deliberate and contemplate them. Nevertheless, research on online worship remains slow, and theological evaluations have not yet been conducted. It is true that, as in the past, whenever a new form of worship emerges, it is always met with criticism. One important fact is that, as revealed in this book, the most important words are the “practice” and “medium” of worship. This book is not a research study on online worship, but rather an inquiry into whether, regardless of the form in which worship is practiced in the 21st-century digital age, it can function as a medium connecting us to worship, and whether the rituals of traditional worship today can open another path for worship through such theological inquiry. This is Teresa’s fundamental reflection. The ultimate meaning of the worship practices performed by the church lies beyond worship itself. In other words, wherever it takes place, it exists within a faithful encounter with God.
