Description

*Four Quartets* is a collection of works by T. S. Eliot, the 1948 Nobel Prize winner in Literature and a representative figure of 20th-century Anglo-American Modernist literature. Featuring works from Eliot's mature period, which blend delicate musicality with profound philosophical and religious contemplation, this collection captures these pieces through elegant translation, allowing readers to faithfully appreciate the musicality of the original works. Widely known as the author of the early work *The Waste Land*, which captured the desolate spiritual landscape of 20th-century Western society following World War I, the author later fell into a state of extreme depression and panic in the mid-1920s. He turned to religion, shifting toward a poetics of contemplation, reflection, salvation, and vision to further develop his literary world. The works in this book were created after this period and are underpinned by a religious perspective. Through Christian poetics, he yearns for the salvation of the individual spirit and Western civilization, and by employing exceptional modernist idioms and rhythms, he reaches a universal realm that transcends mere religious inclinations.

It is great to be able to view a collection of T.S. Eliot's works written after *The Waste Land*. The annotations are so detailed that it naturally makes you feel that great care was taken in the translation and the poetic words were carefully selected.

I haven't read Eliot's books in the original language yet, so I don't know if the translation is good or not, but I am still very satisfied that his books are available in Korea.
