Description

A violin method book for those learning the violin. Professor Thomasic's scale method presents a new approach to practicing scales and chords. First, he advises that scales should always be practiced on a single string, while chords should be practiced on a pair of strings. This method avoids the fundamental characteristics of general practice methods, which typically involve playing only up to the 3rd and 4th positions on G, D, and A before moving on to the E string. Practicing to high positions on each string in this way is crucial for acquiring complete left-hand technique on the fingerboard. The second feature of Thomasic's scale method lies in a new fingering system distinct from previous methods. Instead of the traditional 1, 2 and 1, 2 fingerings, he uses 1, 2, 3 and 1, 2, 3 fingerings. While a player may experience some discomfort in the initial stages of practicing with this fingering, their agile hand movements on the fingerboard will eventually improve significantly. Although this book presents simple scale and chord exercises, this unique method is actually more beneficial than many other extensively presented scale, arpeggio, and chord exercises.
