Stendhal: Theory of Love

*On Love* is underpinned by Stendhal's love for Mécirde, which he experienced in Italy. Stendhal's views on love are quite spiritual in nature and serve as an important source for understanding his system of love. Stendhal referred to this book as a "book of ideology" and showed a special attachment to it. This is because, aside from the fact that it is a record of the greatest love he ever experienced, he generally considered himself a "philosopher" rather than a "novelist," and this book is his only philosophical work.
