I think the explanations are clear and well organized. Many restaurant introductions include ordering tips, so I think they will be a great help to anyone unfamiliar with Japanese restaurants. It is a shame I could not visit many places on this trip, but I hope I can eventually visit all the restaurants in the book.
First impression: the bright, fresh yellow goes well with the simple illustration and catches the eye. Ordinary food photos would have been plain and uninteresting, but the illustration and cute typeface are arranged well. Highlights: It brings to mind the TV programs ‘A Korean Table’ and ‘The Solitary Gourmet.’ In a word, you can glimpse Japanese people’s meals and culture. The author deserves credit for visiting all these restaurants. The stories about Japan’s food culture, which differs from
Until now, I had been led to restaurants only by Google ratings or recommendations from people I know. Nemo’s Tokyo book was very useful: I could save places and learn how to eat Japanese food and what makes each restaurant distinctive. I’m very excited that on my next trip to Japan I’ll be able to share not only a great plan with my companion but also stories about Japanese food. Thank you for publishing the book!!
Nemo’s ‘I’ll Tell You About Real Tokyo Restaurants’ is conveniently organized by type of food. I opened the book, first looked for the food that suited my taste, and marked the restaurants whose style I wanted to try with sticky notes. I decided to start with places in familiar neighborhoods. In this book I found an udon shop I had really wanted to visit just a few days earlier, so I was delighted and chose ‘Udon Maruka’ as my first stop. I tried Nemo’s recommended menu and agree that it is a
It is written so accessibly, in detail, and with such kindness that even a first-time visitor to Tokyo could manage everything with this one book.
This Tokyo book, ‘I’ll Tell You About Real Tokyo Restaurants,’ is by Tokyo’s Nemo, a Japanese person who introduces Japanese restaurants in exceptionally fluent Korean. I had followed the author with interest on Instagram for several years, so I was interested in the new full revised edition. Instead of just the restaurant information I had previously found on blogs or through searches, this book gives restaurants that the author considers genuinely good, in detail and with thoughtful
I’m an office worker living in Japan. I visited a restaurant recommended by Nemo and tried it, and it was incredibly delicious. In particular, the onigiri at Onigiri Bongo was by far the best I have eaten during my 10 years living in Japan. What I liked about Nemo’s book is that the explanations of the dishes and restaurants, as well as the menu recommendations, are easy to understand. Even after living in Japan for a long time, restaurants with menus written only in kanji feel daunting, but
I’ve followed Nemo on Instagram for almost 10 years. In an SNS world full of ads, Nemo is almost the only person I can say is this sincere, obsessive, and devoted to food. In an era when everyone claims to know truly great restaurants, if you want real information, this is the book.
This book neatly and clearly organizes local restaurants, one of the most important parts of travel! There are many travel guidebooks, but I wonder if this may be the only one devoted just to restaurants~ On top of that, a local kindly explains the food and the dishes and ways to enjoy it, so it really is the real deal in restaurant guides... I think I can recommend it to people who are serious about good food haha.
A book I would want to recommend to anyone who loves Tokyo!! Since it is written by a true local Japanese person, the restaurant descriptions are trustworthy, and I like being able to learn where Tokyo locals eat. It even kindly gives Korean pronunciations for the menu!! This one book is all I need to prepare for a spring trip to Tokyo to see the cherry blossoms.
square: I'll tell you about some real Tokyo restaurants.
Are you going to Tokyo? I’ll introduce you to a Japanese friend who knows great restaurants! This Tokyo restaurant guide by my Japanese friend Nemo has returned as a completely revised edition after six years. The author has introduced Tokyo’s restaurants in Korean to Korean friends and selected 80 local restaurants not well known to tourists. It introduces good-value restaurants known only to Tokyo residents, such as nostalgic eateries for people in Shinjuku and yakitori places where Shinbashi office workers have a casual drink after work. It is rich not only in restaurant information but also in knowledge and stories about Japanese food, adding to the pleasure of travel. It also works well as an introduction to Japanese food. A completely revised edition featuring local restaurants selected by Nemo, a Tokyo-born Japanese resident, and reflecting Tokyo after COVID-19! ‘I’ll Tell You About Real Tokyo Restaurants,’ written by Nemo, a Japanese person born and still living in Tokyo, has returned after six years as a fully revised edition. It was a special book because it was about restaurants introduced by a local Tokyo friend to friends visiting the city! So many readers have been waiting for this revised edition. Thanks to meals that never disappointed and were satisfying every time, trips with this book remain my best memories of Japan. I’m already excited that a revised edition is coming. —ReadingNyaong. If I were to consult just one book for a trip to Japan, I would recommend this without hesitation. —MIKA. I felt I could just trust this book and stop searching for restaurants! What a reassuring, appreciated book. Nemo, please do me the honor of another revised edition a few years from now! —squirrel. Restaurants where you can feel the local spirit!
