Gojoseon Civilization, a New Topic in Ancient Human History: Rediscovering Gojoseon Civilization as the Root of East Asian Civilization. ‘Gojoseon Civilization’ shakes up ancient human history, which has traditionally centered on the world’s four to seven major civilizations. Led by Professor Emeritus Shin Yong-ha of Seoul National University, the Society for the Study of Korean Civilizations, which promotes this theory of Gojoseon Civilization, seeks to reclaim the forgotten Gojoseon Civilization from ancient human history by uncovering its true nature from various angles. Six historians who have researched Gojoseon Civilization using their own approaches aim to correctly establish the ancient history of Northeast Asia, and furthermore, the ancient history of humanity, by meticulously examining historical materials from the Korean Peninsula and the Liao River basin in China, which began to be excavated in the 1990s. The Society for the Study of Korean Civilizations conducted research on the theme of "Interdisciplinary Research on Gojoseon Civilization" from 2013 to 2016 and published the "Gojoseon Civilization Series" (Knowledge Industry Press, 2018) as a result. However, there was a sense of regret that the volume and content were too vast to be easily accessible to non-specialists. In response to these requests, the six volumes of the series were condensed and compiled into a single book titled *Why Gojoseon Civilization Now?*. Starting with this book, the Society for the Study of Korean Civilizations intends to continue publishing the "Society for the Study of Korean Civilizations Series," which presents the true nature of ancient Korean history in an accessible manner for general readers. Through this book, which explores the hidden history of the Korean Peninsula—unseen in conventional textbook narratives of ancient history—and newly examines the appearance of this land we stand on 5,000 years ago, readers will be able to find the answer to the question posed by the author: "Why Gojoseon Civilization Now?"
