Seoul Institute: Discussing Seoul's Urban Policy in an Era of Low Growth
Our country has grown faster than ever in the last half century since the 1970s. We've gone through an explosion of urbanization along the way, and Seoul has experienced the fastest urbanization and industrialization of all of them. So Seoul has been given a position as a city of water, which is about one-third of Korea's population and economic activity, or about one third of the country's wealth. But now Seoul is getting old. It's just a time of growth. The growth is now global, and it's become an inevitable reality for us. So what's the direction of city policy in Seoul to adapt to low growth? Eleven local urban policy experts were intensely concerned about diagnosis and solution and were writing a book. I've been looking at the impact of our country's growth, figuring out structurally what is the nature and cause of it, and then I'm going to make a very close guess of how it affects our sectors. The reader can see the right future in Seoul, the capital.
