Sangju Museum: Sangjumok Seonsaeng-an: A record of local officials in Sangju
“Sangju Mokseonsaengan” records the list of over 260 successive local officials of Sangju, starting with Moksa Jeon Peng-ryeong (1480–1560), who took office in 1549 (the 4th year of King Myeongjong) and left office in 1550, and extending to Sangju Mayor Kim Geun-su, who was elected through the direct election of local government heads in 1995, the list includes Sangju Moksa, Sangju Gunsu, and Sangju Sijang. The “Sangju Mokseonsaengan” not only records the names of the local officials appointed to Sangju, but also contains detailed information regarding the change in Sangju's name due to the reorganization of the administrative system, the local officials' courtesy names, birth years, and final official positions. In addition, along with the local officials, it includes a list of 24 Sangju Pan-gwan, 10 Bu-gunsu, and 6 Bu-sijang, as well as additional information. The duties of local officials during the Joseon Dynasty can be summarized as the so-called "Seven Duties of Magistrates," expressed as promoting agriculture and sericulture, curbing treachery, promoting education, simplifying litigation, equalizing taxation and labor, increasing the population, and maintaining military affairs. It is hoped that the "Seven Duties of Magistrates" of the Sangju Mokmin officials can be comprehensively examined through the *Sangju Mokseonsaengan*.
