Paul Taggart: populism
The term populism often appears in political slogans and writings, but there are not many social and scientific studies of it. Paul Tagant notes that the research on populism is based on the reality of populistism, which is not properly defined and vague. To overcome this problem, the book analyzes the nature of populism by introducing a number of examples of popularism, past and present. Part 1 reviews the various definitions and views of populism with criticism and then introduces a new definition of it as a form of popplerism, which has appeared in the United States, Russia, Latin America, Western Europe, and Canada. Part 2 discusses what is involved in populism and what it has to do with democracy, especially the politics of the cause. A research student of social science who is interested in political ideas, political ideologies and social movements must read it.
