I would recommend this book. I only wish it had been printed on better-quality paper.
I especially enjoyed this book because the author’s fresh perspective and opinions helped me reflect on myself in a new way.
A good book whose interpretation through the author’s perspective felt fresh and gave me a chance to reflect on myself from a new point of view.
Pascal Quignard: sexual night
In 2007, French writer Pascal Quignard published a book titled The Sexual Night. On the black pages of this wide, thick hardcover, countless images appear like ghosts in the dark. Nearly 200 plates range across East and West and through the ages, from works by great Western painters such as Michelangelo, Correggio, Rubens, Rembrandt, Magritte, Picasso, and Hopper to Eastern masters such as Shin Yun-bok, Utamaro, and Shitao. What brings together these works, different in style and era, is eroticism. Quignard groups images with similar motifs in each chapter and interweaves short reflections, no more than five pages long, sometimes beside the paintings and sometimes wandering away from them.
