We really need to preserve the legacy left by King Sejong the Great...
It was nice to be able to see the life story of King Sejong in one book.
Following my completion of "Story of Korean History" (751 pages) last year, this is the Korean history book I finished reading nine months later, and it is the 16th book I have finished reading this year. It is a book that summarizes the 519-year history of the Joseon Dynasty, spanning 27 kings from the founding father Taejo Yi Seong-gye to the reign of King Sunjong, who remained as the king of a fallen nation. Although the content is vast, it includes important historical events and family
It's fun. It's well organized.
This is a book I am looking forward to. It will be an opportunity to learn more about King Sejong the Great.
I think it is a well-organized book that anyone interested in King Sejong can approach with ease.
As expected, Sejong
Everyone wants to know about the leader of the country they belong to. Beyond his political history, people want to see his human side in greater detail. That is why looking at a president's personal photograph often prompts us to reflect deeply. King Sejong the Great—when we think of King Sejong, the first thing that comes to mind is undoubtedly the creation of Hangeul. He reigned for 31 years and 6 months. The countless achievements he accomplished during this period were so numerous that
After finishing this book, I found myself thinking for quite a while. I appreciated how the content of the Annals of King Sejong was written in an easy-to-read and concise manner, while providing detailed explanations for the important parts. As I, too, have not read the original Annals, I enjoyed learning about many details I was previously unaware of. The author appropriately incorporated their own subjective perspective, and the content seems well-received. However, I was quite disappointed
The effort put in by author Park Young-gyu to bring [The Annals of King Sejong in One Volume] to fruition is remarkable. It is said that he spent a long six years searching for and collecting materials whenever he had spare time. It is noted that books about King Sejong, who can be considered a leading figure among the most respected figures in Korea, were surprisingly difficult to find. It is suggested that this is not because people do not want to know about King Sejong, but because they
Park Young-gyu: The Annals of King Sejong the Great in One Volume
*The Annals of King Sejong in One Volume* is a book that organizes the history of the Sejong era into a single volume. The author, who helped readers approach history in an easy and enjoyable way through his previous work *The Annals of the Joseon Dynasty in One Volume*—which summarized the vast Annals of the Joseon Dynasty into a single volume—now focuses intensively on the Sejong era. It delves into the true nature of the Sejong era, which is regarded as having ushered in the most brilliant period in Joseon history. This book is structured to allow readers to experience not only factual historical narratives of the Sejong era but also the vivid history created by the figures of that time. By referencing not only the Annals of King Sejong but also various annals of kings before and after him, as well as over 60 types of historical records, it presents a diverse range of narratives, from Sejong's personal stories and tales involving his family and relatives to the stories of the talented individuals who led the Sejong era alongside him. Part 1 examines Sejong's personal history, specifically his upbringing and personal aspects. Part 2 contains the history of the Sejong era as viewed through the lens of the Annals of King Sejong. Part 3 contains a history composed of biographies of talented individuals who were active during the reign of King Sejong, such as Hwang Hui, Maeng Sasong, Jang Yeongsil, and Park Yeon. This book helps readers encounter King Sejong and his era, which may have seemed vague, as a more vivid and complete history.
