Park Sung-kyu: True Elder

“God used the women elders of the Korean church in a precious way to bring about its revival and growth. … I dedicate this book to the women elders who have devoted themselves sacrificially to the church, the body of the Lord.” —From the author’s preface. It would not be wrong to say that the Korean church flourished through the prayers and service of its women elders. Yet few books clearly explain why God established this office or what ministry it entails. This book can help church members who feel called to become women elders or are preparing for the role gain a true understanding of its responsibilities and calling. Pastor Park Sung-gyu, president of Chongshin University, presents a message about the office from a biblical and practical perspective, informed by Reformed thought and long experience in pastoral ministry. Part 1, “Women Elders and the Church,” offers biblical knowledge about the nature and mission of the church where they serve. Part 2, “The Office of Women Elder,” covers qualifications and calling, and Part 3, “The Ministry of Women Elders,” clarifies the nature and function of their work, guiding those who hold or are preparing for the office to live as salt and light inside and outside the church. An appendix also offers practical material for their ministry.
