Description

”Thomas Aquinas summoned into the 21st century speaks of “harmony between faith and reason.” The titles given to honor Thomas Aquinas—“Angelic Doctor,” “the Catholic Church’s greatest teacher,” and others—have made us forget how “progressive” a thinker he was in the context of his time. Yet Thomas was a scholar who actively embraced the newly rediscovered philosophy of Aristotle in order to synthesize it with the Christian tradition. —Seungchan Park. Religion, which can keep wars going for centuries because of spiritual desire, is ironically founded on peace rather than war. As is true of most religions, humanity has long continued bitter fights with outsiders according to its own religious doctrines. Scholars who study and interpret religious teachings surely do not tell people to use their religion as a pillar for war. Is Christianity any different? Even so, why do wars based on Christianity continue to this day? What causes people around the world today to feel anxiety instead of peace, and fear instead of tranquility?

Books about Aquinas are hard to find, and this one is especially useful because it is written so ordinary readers can understand it easily!

A book that describes Thomas Aquinas, who can seem difficult because of our preconceptions, in the clearest and easiest way.

I was able to receive a vivid sense of Thomas Aquinas’s traces. For those without a religion, this may be a record of a great philosopher’s life; for Christians, it may be a good book to read on a pilgrimage.
