Because the material is specialized, it is very helpful and interesting for typographers. Please note, though, that this is not a light general-interest book.

This book covers the theory and practical use of vertical typesetting in East Asia. The book itself is designed in vertical type, so it is also valuable as a resource that provides examples of vertical composition alongside its content. At the same time, it is not simply a resource about methods for setting vertical type. It begins with the idea of vertical composition, then considers typographic approaches from the perspective of our writing system and, more broadly, brings to light the vitality and authenticity of East Asian typography.
