Description

A travel essay on Roman art, *Meeting Bernini at Piazza Navona*. This book captures the lives and works of the artistic masters who transform Rome into poetry—Michelangelo, Raphael, Caravaggio, Bernini, and Bromini—along with the author's memories spanning over a decade. The author, who traveled to Rome to study the art of these five beloved artists, comfortably recounts their works—encountered both by chance and by fate while walking the streets—combining historical background with the author's knowledge, sensibility, and experiences of Rome. Having long harbored a desire to compile the stories of Rome and its artists into a book, the author returned to Rome after more than ten years. We follow the artistic journey of Rome and the souls left by its artists, from Michelangelo, who designed the dome of St. Peter's Basilica, and the ‘Pieta,’ which captures the sorrow of a mother who lost her child, to the Contarelli Chapel containing Raphael’s tomb, the wondrous paintings of Caravaggio, Piazza Navona where one feels as though they might encounter a fated love, and finally to San Carlo Church, which elevates architecture into a work of art.

Bernini is everywhere in Rome. From Piazza Navona to the Vatican and churches large and small, ancient Rome was built thousands of years ago, and modern Rome was Bernini. If you visit Rome, make sure to check out Bernini and Borromini!!

If you are interested in Western culture, learn European culture! If you are interested in European culture, travel to Rome! Although Rome is often listed as a city travelers wish to erase because Europe is constantly under construction and pickpocketing gypsies are particularly prevalent, for me, an art lover, Rome is a lovely city where every moment of memory was spent fully as myself. The Borghese, which I did not want to leave because of its unimaginable size and peacefulness; a street near

Reading this book makes me want to just pack up and leave for Rome, Italy. When I visited Italy before, I only felt that there were many wonderful works of art, but after reading this book, I gained a deeper understanding of Michelangelo, Bernini, and other artists. It is an accessible art book, and it is a great read to prepare for a trip to Italy. It is a book that makes me love Rome, which I already loved, even more. I highly recommend it!
