I'm glad I can read President Moon Jae-in's memoir. The interview format also makes it easier to read.
I'm glad to be able to read the history of South Korea over those five years.
Peace, and nothing but peace.
It was very readable, and I miss him so much. I support a whole and sovereign Republic of Korea.
Do you know what it means to grit your teeth and persevere? Do you know why President Moon Jae-in did not want to lose? Although we had to write a tragic chapter during the Japanese colonial period, we fought them and kept the identity and honor of the Republic of Korea that we had protected until then. During President Moon's term, we showed our strength on the world stage. I hope you read this book and see how hard he and many others worked for our country. This is what true conservatism
The book arrived late again, and the cover was torn when it got here. What's going on with Kyobo?
The delivery was really fast. I look forward to reading it.
Diplomacy is a very difficult field, but I'll work through the book step by step. I'm looking forward to the topics beyond diplomacy and security too.
The words in the opening chapter gave me great comfort as a citizen of South Korea: that all of this was made possible by the strength of the people. They were not just written to please the public. As I read, I felt proud again to be Korean. Thank you. This is how I think diplomacy should be done. I sincerely recommend it to anyone who wants to learn how to read the state of the world and current affairs.
He is the president I proudly chose. I'm grateful to have lived in the same era as him!
Moon Jae-in: From the periphery to the center
For the first time, former President Moon Jae-in recounts the achievements and shortcomings of his five years in office, focusing on urgent and consequential diplomacy and security: the background to key policy decisions, the rapidly changing international situation, summits and behind-the-scenes negotiations with world leaders, and his reflections and afterthoughts. He vividly describes his decisive moments as mediator and negotiator in historic events centered on the Korean Peninsula: three inter-Korean summits with Chairman Kim Jong Un, several South Korea–U.S. summits with former President Trump, two U.S.–North Korea summits in Singapore and Hanoi, and the inter-Korean-U.S. meeting at Panmunjom. The book also shares behind-the-scenes stories about responding to Japan's export restrictions and the forced-labor issue; the end and development of the U.S.-ROK missile guidelines; the return of General Hong Beom-do's remains; the shift from arms importer to exporter; and the COVID-19 response, including the background to major defense, veterans' affairs, and defense-industry policies and how contentious issues were handled to protect people's lives and safety. Choi Jong-kun, former Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs, who assisted Moon for most of his 60 months in office, asks the questions. The book also includes about 100 photographs of key moments from each period. The breathless sequence of meetings among the leaders of the two Koreas and the United States—from Panmunjom to Pyongyang, Seoul to Washington, and Singapore and Hanoi and back to Pyongyang—showed that peace on the Korean Peninsula was achievable, not a fantasy. This vivid record and testimony from the leader who guided South Korea from crisis toward hope, confrontation toward prosperity, and the periphery toward the center in a turbulent era asks and answers what diplomacy means for our survival and prosperity amid the Korean Peninsula's geopolitical realities.
