If you read this book and then read the author's direct translation of the Institutes of the Christian Religion from Latin, you will understand it better and it will be organized in your mind.
Personally, it is difficult to accept all of Freud's claims. However, as someone studying psychology, it is difficult to understand Adler, Jung, Maslow, Erikson, Rogers, and countless others without knowing Freud. Calvin's arguments are somewhat far-fetched. Nevertheless, one should read this at least once because it is valid in supporting the claim that religion should not be authoritarian, coercive, or blind.
