Description

Seoul, Stained by Politics: It Is Time for Change. Seoul, the capital that has endured to this day under the name Hanyang during the Joseon Dynasty. Throughout this long history, the reason Seoul was able to become a competitive city was thanks to citizens with a high level of civic consciousness and excellent public officials who acted in accordance with those citizens' standards. However, since politics began interfering with administration ten years ago, Seoul has been ruined to an irreversible degree. Many politicians have started to view the position of Mayor of Seoul as a shortcut to becoming president. Accordingly, the author objectively analyzes where these problems originated and what issues are causing them to ruin the city of Seoul. Furthermore, rather than merely watching the reality of a falling Seoul, the book explains how the city can change. New Land: The 3.6 Million Pyeong Creation Project. Seoul is shaped like a basin surrounded by high mountains on all sides, which limits the available space for urban expansion. The limitations of planar expansion led to three-dimensional expansion, causing the proliferation of countless high-rise buildings. Due to these densely packed buildings, Seoul's space is scarce. The expansion of personal space is only possible with the expansion of physical space. The only option left for us now is to recreate less valuable spaces into more valuable ones. Around the Han River, there exists 3.6 million pyeong of space with infinite potential for development. The re-creation of Seoul, which once seemed impossible, begins with the ‘Seoul New Frontier Project,’ which aims to increase the value of this space and elevate the economic power of Seoul and South Korea to a higher level.

I bought this book drawn in by its catchy title, but after finishing it, I couldn't help but sigh. In short, a book published in 2021 held the perspective of 1971 or 1981. Moreover, the author wrote a vague self-introduction, perhaps out of shame; however, a search of his name revealed that he served as the Chief of Planning and Coordination at the National Intelligence Service (NIS) during the Lee Myung-bak administration. As expected... To think that someone with such a perspective

Divided into six sections, this book explains the past and future of Seoul and South Korea. It describes how the city of Hanyang developed during the Joseon Dynasty and presents concrete plans for its future development. Along with steady population growth, urban space is becoming scarce. With the daily increase in high-rise buildings, Seoul lacks space for its citizens. In this book, the author explains future urban planning for Seoul by utilizing the waterfront areas of the Han River; the

This book seems to present a vision for how South Korea and its capital, Seoul, should develop, especially for those of us who will live in the future. I think that if Seoul's future changed just like the author's project, I would be truly happy.
