Description

Another point to note regarding the Turtle Play is that sorghum leaves are used in the process of making the turtles. Sorghum is a field crop cultivated in water-scarce regions. In other words, unlike today, the transmission region of the Turtle Play can be suggested to be a field farming area where the practice of "Gurugeori" (a type of shamanistic ritual) was performed. Possessing these cultural characteristics, the Turtle Play has gradually combined with Nongak (Korean traditional farmers' music) to strongly demonstrate its performative nature. This book aims to examine these changes in transmission.
