Leon de Winter: Hoffman's Hunger
The Dutch-represented intellectual author Leon de Binter, Hung Hong-hop-hong. The author's 1990 novel has given him a great success in winning a world reputation comparable to Milan Kundera and Umberto Echo. The Dutch ambassador Hoffmann, in the Czech Republic, is a thriller whose philosophical reasoning was based on his insatiable desire and hunger, as well as the stories that were being told by his neighbors. Hoffman, a survivor of the Holocaust and lost his twin daughter, suffers from insomnia and binge eating. He indulges in the food of the refrigerator and the philosophy of the Spinoza every night when he cannot sleep, but his realities are full of emptiness and loneliness....
