"Basic Nursing Science" is a fundamental subject for understanding the biological aspects of human beings who are nursing recipients. Therefore, this textbook aims to provide a systematic understanding of the definitions and pathophysiology of concepts highly relevant to nursing practice among the phenomena of human responses arising from health problems, as well as to understand the mechanisms of action of drugs, which are one of the solutions. The textbook consists of a total of 15 chapters, and the main topics of each chapter are as follows. Chapter 1, "Inflammation," examines inflammation and inflammatory processes, enabling students to learn about the processes of acute and chronic inflammation, their local and systemic effects, and tissue repair processes. It also presents the types and mechanisms of action of representative anti-inflammatory drugs. Chapter 2, "Infection," examines the principles and processes of infection and enables students to learn the pathophysiology of bacterial and viral infectious diseases. It also introduces the types and mechanisms of action of representative treatments for infectious diseases. Chapter 3, "Immune Dysfunction," enables students to learn about the pathophysiology of hypersensitivity reactions, autoimmune diseases, transplant rejection, and congenital and acquired immunodeficiency diseases. Furthermore, the types and mechanisms of action of representative treatments for immune diseases were presented. Chapter 4, "Tumors," examines the definition and classification of tumors and enables learning about their mechanisms of development, spread, grades and stages, and effects on the human body. It also presents the types and mechanisms of action of representative anticancer drugs. Chapter 5, "Ischemia," explores the mechanisms of ischemia development and reversible and irreversible cell damage mechanisms, and allows learning about the types, effects, symptoms, and signs of myocardial ischemia. Additionally, the types and mechanisms of action of representative drugs that correct ischemia were introduced.
