Description

This book compiles student poetry works by Lee Kang-hwi, a poet and teacher at Masan Muhak Girls' High School. Poetry is undoubtedly a genre with its own unique value and charm. The problem is that only Korean language teachers seem to recognize this. How can students internalize the appeal of poetry? It was based on this contemplation that a poetry creation class began. We often say that we live in a world where poetry has lost its value. However, when I see children diligently writing poems for a year, passing them around to read, and chattering away, it seems that the value of poetry is actually holding its ground. Perhaps it is not that poetry has lost its value, but that we have forgotten it. Having children write poems and reading them aloud with care reminds us of the value of poetry that we have forgotten. Simply reading the poems carefully written by the children will allow one to fully feel the value of poetry. Poetry is not difficult. It is simply writing stories of human life as a form of play. If you take poetry too seriously, it runs further away. I hope we can finally reconcile with poetry. I hope poetry and life become closer. I hope we grow closer, and that the children's lives are imbued in their poetry. It would be even better if poetry settled into the lives of our children. - From the Editor's Note -
