This was the best network theory book I have studied so far. To list a few of its advantages: 1) It follows spiral learning. You can grasp the overall framework just by studying the beginning of the book. 2) It contains many illustrations. These are not merely visually appealing pictures; they are condensed with information, so you can simply look at the diagrams during review. 3) It is easy to understand. Even someone like me, who knows nothing about networks, found it not difficult to grasp.

Author Lee Jung-ho, a networking expert boasting many years of teaching experience, has introduced a 105-hour lecture textbook focusing exclusively on TCP/IP. TCP and IP are the fundamental protocols for the numerous programs currently communicating over the Internet, and in fact, the vast majority of programs communicate using them. Since most data communication during the evolution from ARPANET to the current Internet was based on TCP and IP, the term served as a synonym for Internet protocol itself; even now, despite the development of various protocols, it remains the de facto representative term for Internet protocols. Therefore, TCP/IP is the core protocol of the Internet and the name of a network model, making it a topic capable of grasping the essence of networking through this single concept alone. In the TCP/IP layer model and the OSI 7-layer model, TCP (Transmission Control Protocol) and UDP (User Datagram Protocol) belong to the transport layer, while IP (Internet Protocol) and ICMP (Internet Control Message Protocol) belong to the network layer. Furthermore, the dominant data transmission method on the Internet has shifted from circuit switching to packet switching, the data transmission method of TCP/IP. The function of TCP/IP, which has become the current mainstream, is to divide information or files transmitted over the Internet into fixed-size packets and distribute them through paths generated by combinations of numerous nodes on the network, and then reassemble the packets that arrive at the destination back into the original information or files.
