Lee Han-gu et al.: What is democracy?
Although a generation ago it claimed the final victory of free democracy, now there is a loud and loud cry that democracy was in crisis all over the world. There are many empirical studies that have been conducted over a decade ago that have shown democracy retreating. The current retreat of democracy is a way in which democracy is threatened or killed by leaders who have been democratically elected by the people. Not a coup, so soldiers drive tanks, not to race the streets, and votes continue. The external framework of democracy is preserved. But democracy becomes a hollowed-out rule by a dictator who has been elected to vote and then is transformed into a dictator. Often it happens that dictators turn democratic systems into political weapons, changing justice and other neutral institutions into a taste, or changing the rules of political games to fatalize competitors. This situation has led to a situation where the election won't even win. The bipartisan polarization is so serious. It's becoming more and more out of policy differences and inexistable. In this situation, the country that was headed for free democracy is returning to authoritarianism. There is a reason why we have to ask for democracy again.
