Description

The dominant topic in sex education in Korea today has become contraception. Newspapers, broadcasters, media outlets, and popular YouTube channels overwhelmingly argue that, as in the United States and Europe, condoms should be freely distributed to teenagers and parents should teach their children how to use them. Even public broadcasting teaches that a mother must be able to explain condom use to an elementary-school-aged child in order to provide proper sex education. But do developed countries really teach their teenagers only about contraception? This book checks the facts behind various topics in current Korean sex education and proposes an alternative from a position opposite to today's approach. When two sides disagree on an issue, individuals can make sound choices only after hearing both sides fully. In Korea, even sex education has become a private tutoring business, and public opinion strongly—but strangely—claims that outside experts should handle it because school sex-education teachers are not specialists. Teachers, parents, and students all need to learn together what good sex education means. This book uncovers realities that our time is trying hard to hide.

It helped change the entrenched idea—planted by the media and dominant sex education of our time—that sex is fine as long as you use contraception. I chose it while wondering how to teach my child about sex, but it ended up helping me personally. Reading it together and talking about it naturally led to media-literacy education as well as sex education. I strongly recommend it to sex educators and parents raising

The author's insightful call for sincere love, life, and responsibility really resonates. Parents should read this first and share its message with teenagers.
