Hello. I recently became interested in speed reading, so I decided to read this book. It is the revised edition of "Comprehensive Speed Reading Method" by author Lee Geum-nam. The first edition was published in the 1980s, and it appears to have been released to suit the Korean market at a time when speed reading was trending in the United States. When I first started reading it, I was skeptical. This was because there was a lack of significant scientific research results, and it covered topics
As the title suggests, *Easy-to-Understand Comprehensive Speed Reading* is a book that explains speed reading in an easy-to-understand manner. I had many books I wanted to read and needed to read, but I was unable to read them quickly due to a lack of time, the sheer volume, or the difficulty of the content. In particular, since I preferred many different genres and had multiple books in each, I couldn't read them all; I often relied on recommendations for the books I absolutely had to read.
I have read a lot of books, but my reading speed hasn't improved much. While some argue that careful reading is better than fast reading, it is truly frustrating not being able to read quickly when I need to. However, regarding "speed reading"—the method of reading a large amount of text in a short time—Ivy League universities like Harvard and Yale actually teach it as a freshman general education course. Furthermore, it is said that there are many renowned speed readers not only at the U.S.
Four years ago, there was a student whose speed reading count was calculated using a computer program that tracks the number of words read in one minute. Possessing incredible speed reading abilities—reading more than ten times as many words as their peers—this child rapidly flipped through a book from the first page to the last, completing it in just 30 seconds. (Refer to the YouTube video: https://youtu.be/aDmzLbexdDk) While others read 200 words per minute, this speed reader was able to read
When it comes to reading, some argue that intensive reading is the correct approach, while others argue that speed reading is. I, too, used to be one of those who advocated for intensive reading. My reasoning was that I believed speed reading made it difficult to understand books. However, as reading speeds have gradually increased compared to the past, and since comprehension does not diminish even with faster speeds, I came to believe that speed reading poses no problem for reading. Although
Since I hadn't studied speed reading or comprehension since briefly attending a speed reading academy as a child, I had a strong desire to learn proper speed reading techniques. I was incredibly excited to learn how anyone can master the method of reading quickly and understanding books immediately in a short amount of time with just this one book, *Easy-to-Understand Comprehensive Speed Reading*. Divided into three parts—covering comprehensive speed reading theory and training, as well as
