Kwon Oh-young et al.: Silla water
We sought to elucidate the ‘Silla Wells’ to shed light on the lifestyle of the Silla people. As the fruit of these efforts, *Silla Wells* has been published as the second volume of the Research Series of the Silla Cultural Heritage Research Institute. No living thing can survive without water, and wells have been an everyday place of human life and a center of community living from ancient times to the present. In particular, Silla wells were special sanctuaries related to the founding of the nation, national protection, and rituals. Fortunately, despite the passage of time, over 200 Silla wells have been excavated in Gyeongju. Our task in the present era regarding Silla wells is to properly evaluate and preserve the existing ones, thereby revealing the fragrance of history inherent within them and making them widely known. We must strive to ensure that many people can view Silla wells and experience the dignity of Silla.
