Description

Comprising 15 chapters, this book explains the political flow from ancient Chinese civilization to modern trends while also introducing the society and culture of the time, making it suitable as a textbook for Chinese history and Chinese studies. Furthermore, it will serve as an accessible and enjoyable general interest book for readers seeking to understand Chinese history and culture. It was written to help Korean students and readers understand Chinese history—which they have often found difficult—in an easy and entertaining way. While it cannot cover every historical fact in detail, it provides an introduction that allows readers to grasp the major currents of Chinese history and understand the characteristics of each era. I hope this book serves as an opportunity to encounter the true nature of China and the Chinese people, and to reflect on how our society should relate to them.

Selected as an excellent book for the 2020 Sejong Book Awards by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, I would recommend this book if I had to choose just one to read for those beginning to study China. I pay tribute to the author's skill in enabling readers to grasp the grand narrative of the Five Thousand Years of Chinese History in a single reading, through a concise writing style and abundant photographic materials.

It contains numerous photographs and timelines, making it excellent for understanding the vast history of China. The explanations of the rise and fall and major events leading to the formation of modern-day China are very well done. I recommend it as required reading for high school or as a primary textbook for university.

Unlike previous Chinese history books, the newly published *Chinese History Loved by Koreans* introduces a vast history chronologically, spanning from ancient times to Xi Jinping’s "Chinese Dream and Belt and Road Initiative." Not only is the content engaging, but the book also makes extensive use of photographs, illustrations, maps, and timelines to accommodate students and general readers unfamiliar with Chinese history, making the immense amount of historical material easy to understand.
