Kim Young-hoon et al.: Architectural Design 1
Architectural design refers to the series of design tasks through which a physical form is created, beginning with the initial reading of a site and proceeding through the architect's thinking, the client's requirements, and the establishment of an architectural concept. This process can be divided into stages such as programming, planning, and design; the architect licensing examination assesses and verifies basic abilities in planning and design. Questions are set by broadly classifying the fundamental design-work abilities an architect should possess in relation to sites and buildings, then subdividing them into smaller tasks. Accordingly, this study guide is divided by subject into Volume 1, [Site Planning]; Volume 2, [Architectural Design 1]; and Volume 3, [Architectural Design 2]. Each volume enables self-study by including examination criteria, theory and planning, practice questions, and exercises for each subtask. [Site Planning] assesses site-related content in detail: site analysis, site zoning, topographic planning, site sections, site parking, and site layout. [Architectural Design 1], the most important area of architectural design, assesses matters related to the functional organization of each room; its subject is floor-plan design. [Architectural Design 2] assesses the technical aspects of building composition in detail: section design, stair design, roof design, structural planning, and building-services planning. Along with this structure, the book focuses on presenting theory and approaches to problems as clearly as possible. Its greatest strength and distinguishing feature is that it includes planning processes that can be applied directly in practice.
