Kim Suk-ji et al.: TOPIK2 Vocabulary in 50 Days

This book was designed to help students preparing for the intermediate and advanced levels of the Test of Proficiency in Korean (TOPIK) solve two common problems: where to start and where to stop when studying vocabulary, and how to remember it and use it appropriately in context. To make effective study possible in a short time, it includes about 1,400 essential words for intermediate and advanced learners, selected by frequency on the test and importance. The authors analyzed every past exam released since the TOPIK test was revised in 2014, then compiled vocabulary from the National Institute for International Education's published TOPIK vocabulary list and textbooks from major Korean universities and institutions. Learners study about 30 words each day under one topic. Before studying meanings in earnest, learners go through a “Preparation” stage in which they see words in sentences and try to infer their meanings. In the “Study” stage, varied example sentences show the headwords in different situations and let learners check their understanding again. “Test Tips” and “Background Knowledge for a Perfect Score” under each headword support deeper, more solid memorization. The “Review” stage includes a daily “Let's Check,” reviews about every ten days, and two mini practice tests at the end of the book to help learners check what they have learned regularly. In addition to audio of the vocabulary and example sentences read by a professional voice actor, PDF files of the English translations are provided through QR codes, making it easier to study from multiple angles.
