Description

This picture book about great figures is designed for children who have just mastered Hangeul and are ready to develop independent reading habits. It features text and illustrations perfectly tailored to the level of 6- to 7-year-olds, the age when they are just learning Hangeul and establishing the habit of reading on their own. By looking into the lives of these great figures from their childhood, it is easy for children to relate to and is enjoyable. Furthermore, it helps children naturally understand figures who lived in different eras and aids in character development through vicarious experiences. Composed of verified figures most respected by Koreans, the "Great Figures in Textbooks to Meet Before School" series consists of five Korean figures and five world figures. What exactly about these great figures is it that makes them respected by so many people to this day and become figures featured in textbooks? You can discover not only anecdotes about their extraordinary qualities from childhood but also fun stories from their early lives that were previously unknown. It also features the story of Hans Christian Andersen, the Danish storyteller who left behind fairy tales familiar to children, such as *The Brave Toy Soldier*, *The Ugly Duckling*, *The Emperor's New Clothes*, and *The Little Mermaid*. How did Andersen, born in a poor rural village in Denmark, become a historical figure featured in textbooks? It is said that Andersen's original dream was to become an actor. You can learn the story of how Andersen, who failed to become an actor, went on to become a great fairy tale writer instead, in the book.

"Great Figures in Textbooks Before Going to School" is a biography that captivates the eyes of 6- and 7-year-old children with just the right amount of text and fun illustrations, designed to help children who have just learned to read develop a reading habit on their own. It is a biography that isn't dry or boring. Why should we

I think reading biographies of great figures is really necessary before starting school. I thought children should read various stories before school, but it wasn't as easy as I thought. I looked forward to learning new things through these biographies and the unique stories they presented. It is said that Mr. Andersen's favorite book when he was young was *Arabian Nights*. It was a new story for me. A story full of mystery and adventure is certainly one that even Mr. Andersen would have fallen

[Darakwon] Andersen, the Danish Storyteller Written by Kim Se-sil, Illustrated by Park Su-ji Darakwon I used to take it for granted that those who tell beautiful and touching stories must have lived equally beautiful lives. Perhaps, buried in the story, I projected my own emotions onto the work without a moment to think about the author, and I may have regarded the author merely as a story factory. I have finally met [Andersen], the author of stories such as *The Ugly Duckling*, *The Emperor's
