Kim Kyung-hee: The birth of the concept of the modern state
A deep consideration of the formation of the early national ideology in Western modern times has come from the question, What is a nation? The form of the state has changed widely, including the ancient city state ofpolis, the feudal nation, the territorial state, and the modern state. But the key to the change in the form of the nation is that it is all its members, in other words, ‘the things of the public.’. This book describes the formation of the early modern national ideology that follows from John of Salisbury to Machiavelli. Part 1 deals with the organic state of Salisbury John in the late Middle Ages, before Machiavelli's Nationalism. To him the state was a body of heads and members, so that the king had the highest head, the Senate, the king's advisory body, whose officers were the heart, the judges and local administrators, who played the role of the eyes and ears and tongues, and the church was the role that the soul plays. Roman law and Aristotle's work? Political science? looking closely at the medieval National Assembly. Part 2 examines the political situation of the Renaissance, Italy and Florence. In the Middle Ages, the current situation of the Renaissance was in place, and politics was also moving from universal to secular power. The focus is on the struggle between the Pope and the militarist and the domination of the House of Florence Medici. Part 3 focuses on Machiavelli's three topics: political identity, public bias and public morality. Machiavelli saw a vibrant community important to the country, and urged that it should be directed toward public good and publicliness. He thought the nation should move not for private gain but for public benefit.
