Description

Why are we swayed by other people's standards? People continually wrestle with success and failure, happiness and unhappiness. We compare ourselves with those around us and try to find ourselves, but such choices only take us farther from true happiness. This book proposes centering life on oneself and following a path of equality that acknowledges both one's own desires and other people. Through 22 works of Western classical literature, The Happy Solitary Egoist conveys a message of “self-interested equality.” Each work tells the story of people seeking the center of their lives in different eras and circumstances. These stories can help us distinguish success from failure and judge which choices will benefit us. This book was written for readers who already agree with the idea of thinking of themselves as the center of their lives but hesitate to put it into practice. It offers 22 varied examples and insights, and will bring a fresh perspective and energy to your life. Stop being swayed by the world's standards. Acknowledge yourself and begin a new journey of practicing self-interested equality.

The Lonely Egoist Is Happy. Its author, Kim Gyu-beom, studied IT in college, worked in a variety of jobs, and has now spent more than 20 years at the workplace where he settled. He is industrious: he travels freely and has earned more than 30 certifications. How can we overcome the circumstances we face today, when it is hard to live with a clear mind? The author speaks to us from a somewhat different perspective. Of the 22 stories he introduces, some are books we have already read and others

Reading the classics. For a long time, most classics that had been loved for generations seemed so difficult that I was afraid to read them. I look back and wonder whether I avoided books outside my school textbooks because I felt compelled to read classics. I also kept my distance from books because I thought building character mattered more than reading something fun, and that meant choosing difficult books. As I got older and more interested in books, I realized I had been denying the fact

The Lonely Egoist Is Happy introduces 22 works of classic literature. The author says success and failure differ because people let the world’s standards sway them instead of centering life on themselves, and discusses how to think with yourself at the center. How can we center life on ourselves rather than the world? This book looks for the answer in classic literature. “Works called classics are books that have moved and inspired many readers over a long time, earning empathy across

A journey through classical literature with author Kim Gyu-beom: The Happy Solitary Egoist. Should we follow along, and if not, where should we go? Why are we swayed by other people's standards? Even amid our busy, hectic lives, we need to look inward at least once to find what we truly want. We should all live as the protagonists of our own lives, but we are so used to comparing ourselves with others that we often forget who we truly are. In The Happy Solitary Egoist, rather than focusing on

The title The Lonely Egoist Is Happy is unusual and immediately catches the eye. The author gives a positive new interpretation to egoism and solitude, offering a fresh way to think about how individuals can pursue happiness in modern society. The book emphasizes independence and inner fulfillment, and the importance of loving and understanding yourself apart from your relationships with others. As I read, I realized how deeply rooted the negative associations with “solitude” and “egoism” are.

This is an essay collection on 22 classics by Kim Gyu-beom, a lecturer and author who majored in IT at university. These are works we know well and have enjoyed reading, but they are reinterpreted through the author's perspective and infused with new insight. I found myself nodding several times as I read. The book is divided into five chapters, each guided by a couple of keywords. The themes, such as making a healthy leap forward in life and strengthening one's will, left me feeling refreshed.

Twenty-Two Classics for You. Published by Daehan Publishing, The Lonely Egoist Is Happy is both a guide to classic literature and a collection of reflections on 22 classics selected by author Kim Gyu-beom, who runs the April Family Book Review channel. To share my tastes, I regularly read the literary bloggers Sanchaek and Dimitri, and I enjoy the booktubers Oren’s Book Travel, Winter Bookstore, Editor K, and April Family; among them, I especially like April Family’s clear, polished reviews.

I had so many frustrations in life, but after reading this book, my thoughts became much clearer, and I decided to try living by the methods it recommends. The ad calls it a guide to happiness for modern people, and that’s no empty claim.
